The Road is Life
The day got off to a bit of a rough start. I should be thankful though that my head was in the Kelley’s expensive guest bathroom Kohler toilet rather than a dirty public restroom at some shitty gas station in Bullhead City, Arizona. Apparently the Doxycycl that I was prescribed for what I thought was Swine Flu didn’t agree with me today. Could’ve been my empty stomach or maybe my body was trying to keep me from driving away from the west coast and everything that I’d come to know for the past 5 years. Whatever the cause of my projectile vomiting, luckily I puked up the coffee, water, and little blue pill before we left for 12 hours of driving.
In my front seat:
1. A bag of Almonds from Pat
2. The lucky leather headband Kate made me
3. Approx. 20 burned CDs (mostly music from Kimbo that I would have died without)
4. A coffee cup full of sunflower seed shells
5. A bag of Ranch sunflower seeds
6. My mom’s vintage Vaurnets
7. Half of my craft box because I couldn’t fit it anywhere else in my car.
Searchlight, NV: There’s an Ice Cream Social every Monday and Wednesday. I saw a sign on the side of the road....I think I want to go back and check that out.
Somewhere along the way, I accidently got Ryan’s truck mixed up with some other white truck somewhere in Nevada. I followed the wrong truck off the off-ramp. Ryan and Andy waved to me from the freeway.
St. George, UT: The box battened to the roof of my car busted. It was full of my swimsuits and nylons. I didn’t realize until some lady drove up next to me and started flailing her arms and pointing to my roof. I guess my swim separates and fishnets were blowing outta the lid of my car, I wish I could have seen it myself.
In my cd player:
1. Remixxxxxes from Kimbo (including a Them Jeans Acoustic remix of Soft Shock that I'm in love with)
2. Say hi
3. Girl Talk
4. Via Audio
5. Rolling Stones
6. Some Neva Dinova and Sound Team
Hopefully tomorrow will go by faster than I can say snowcones and puppies............doubt it.
.......The next day
We stayed the night in Denver at a Marriot where Ryan got a military discount. Much nicer accommodations than I’d have been able to afford. Life on the road with Ryan isn’t too bad. However, we were in a 4 start hotel and somehow we still ended up brushing our teeth in the parking lot outside that morning. Hillbillies.
Successfully absolutely NOTHING eventful happened in the whole state of Nebraska. I drove Indian-style the majority of the time, pushing the limits of multitasking. Checking facebook, taking pictures out the window, making videos of myself, teaching myself how to freestyle, talking to myself, laughing at myself talking to myself, anything to make the time pass.
Ali’s homeland state of Iowa was pretty uneventful as well. Just don’t ever bother to go to either place.
The trip ended at approximately 3:45 AM when I arrived to a sleepy little town called Chesterton, Indiana. Still buzzed off coffee and blaring a Diplo remix, I pulled into my parent’s driveway on Gladys Lane. The houses on the street were all dark, bushes trimmed perfectly, and flower pots lined the porches. Nobody’s door was probably even locked on the entire block. Life here in the Midwest is slow, quiet, and nothing has changed in the 1/2 decade that I’ve been gone. I might have trouble adjusting.......
